SCORNED Standing UP.

  • Bridgewater, Virginia.

Driving around the country makes you feel open, free and to be completely honest: gassy, seriously, Cracker Barrel gets to you.

I am currently in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, listening to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRt8wBT9Fj0. Yup just like it is a regular song. Because it is that catchy and dare I say, uplifting?

This trip, so far, has been amazing. The trip I am referring to is the one where I drive over a thousand miles to St. Louis, MO with my cousin Matthew. First let me point out that Matthew, while being my best friend since he was born two weeks after me, is the polar opposite of me.

That’s an obvious exaggeration, he’s not black. But you get the point. Let’s just wrap it up this way. We’re driving to St. Louis because he is going to Seminary to be a Lutheran pastor. Get it?

We started this sojourn in Long Island with a relaxing and fun-filled stop in Bridgewater, VA. We have family there. And the only way to explain Bridgewater is: America.

It was the 175th birthday for the town. So we went to a parade full of flag girls, fire trucks, a “Creation NOT Evolution” float, and of course the General Lee. Yes, the “Dukes of Hazard” car.

We also went to the highest point in Virginia: Reddish Knob. Yes, I know, it does sound like an STD, but it was beautiful. As soon as we get out of the car a random stranger in a Ted Nugent hat and his good friend in a “stars and bars” Lynyrd Skynyrd shirt exclaim: “Ya’ll wanna see a rattler?”

Lo and behold we saw a rattlesnake. He was, as the Ted Nugent-man was saying, “incoror..(something)” it meant he who sits and waits. And thats what he was doing sitting and waiting. Ted Nugent-man went on to talk about how he loves all of God’s creatures and just looking at them. Me too Ted Nugent-man, me too.

Seeing my cousins and my cousins kids was really great though. It never happens like that. Usually there’s screaming and crying and peeing and 50 relatives. So its nice to just sit back and hang out with them.

    Updates from St. Louis coming.
